There are certain advantages to living in Central Austin as opposed to downtown. Certainly, Central Austin is close enough to downtown, and basically includes the areas encompassing Town Lake to 183, including the University of Texas at Austin campus. Central Austin offers easy access to downtown’s business, shopping and entertainment, yet central Austin’s neighborhoods, many dating from the 1960’s are smaller, and have retained the suburban “feel” that residents find so appealing about Central Austin real estate.

Central Austin Condos and Lofts

Central Austin residential living offers a distinct advantage over downtown, in that, despite the area’s proximity to the heart of the city, Central Austin condos and lofts are for the most part available at a lower price per square foot than a downtown location, particularly north of Hyde Park to 183. Central Austin condos and lofts located nearest to downtown and the university are usually priced more competitively, except for the West Campus neighborhood where residential costs are more geared toward student living.
